Koh Chang Tropicana Resort and Spa

 

 

Koh Chang Tropicana Resort and Spa is a luxurious beach resort situated on the finest location of Koh Chang Island – the main island of Mu Koh Chang National Park and the Thailand’s third largest island. The island embraces the rich diversity of flora and fauna, stunning mountain ranges, cascaded waterfalls and crystal clear rivers. The resort executive management and staff realise on the beauty of the natural surrounding and thus, pay the great attention to preserve the environment and also support the nearby community.

 

Environmental policy of Koh Chang Tropicana Resort and Spa can be viewed in 5 main aspects as following;

 

1.  Reduce the use of chemicals 

1.1 Reduce the use of chemicals to prevent contamination of environment such as DDT, pesticide, fertiliser , deodorizer, acid-contained bathroom cleaner and CFC etc

1.2 Provide a comprehensive training program to staff for a proper use of chemicals. This potentially increases efficiency of the operation and therefore, reduces chemical residues to the environment     

1.3 Use Bio-organic instead of chemicals as much as possible since organic matter easily and naturally decompose substance and leaves none or minimal toxic residue in the environment. 

1.4 Invite resort guests to cooperate with the resort concerning the environment preservation, for instance, guests staying longer than one night may decide to reuse towels for another day. This helps to lesser a release of washing chemical to the environment.        

 

2. Manage residual wastes

2.1 Reduce amount of wastes by choosing materials or packages that can be easily managed such as use glass/ceramic/nature-based container instead of plastic container, replace plastic bag with fabric bag or plastic bag that easily decomposed under the sun, give up foam use, use two-sided papers and use nature-based material for furniture or decoration.     

2.2 Suitably manage and eliminate wastes such as give food leftover for animals or ferment it for fertiliser and energy etc. Moreover, waste separation is also a must in order to effectively handle different kinds of waste especially chemical and electronic wastes.     

2.3 Educate the nearby community on the importance of waste reduction and separation and how to.  

 

3. Minimise energy consumption

3.1 Reduce electricity use by switching off lights when not necessarily used, replacing light bulb with compact fluorescent lamp (CFL), opening curtains for nature light during the day, turning off refrigerator in guest room if the room is vacant and switching off computer monitor if not in use. The resort also has a record of monthly electricity charge to monitor electricity usage.  

3.2 Reduce fuel use by encouraging staff to ride a bicycle instead of automotive, using trolley instead of delivery car, educating staff how to save fuel when driving and frequently checking on a condition of automotive and electricity generator. 

3.3 Reduce gas usage by minimising the use of cloth dryer, quickly turning off stove once finish cooking, using containers that can keep warmth to save energy on reheating the food and thawing frozen food instead of defrosting it on a stove or in a microwave

 

4. Manage waste water 

4.1 Diminish wasting clean water by using water-saving tap, shower and toilet, often finding for a leak and preventing chemical contamination into the water 

4.2 Perform the waste water treatment system to sanitize waste water to clean water. Besides, the resort has underground water source and a pond to store water from rain, and after purified, the water can be used as normal in the resort 

4.3 Never release waste or unclean or contaminated water to the environment without proper treatment.  

 

5. Preserve the environment and support the community

Koh Chang Tropicana Resort and Spa primarily offers jobs for locals which gives a sound opportunity for them to be professionally trained. This helps to develop the community. The resort, moreover, always participate in environmental support activities with every organisation. All staff is also educated about the responsibility to environment.
